Wastewater-only bills

Your water might be supplied by a different company. If so, we'll only bill you for taking water away. Below you can find our wastewater charges and details on the other water suppliers in our area.

background

About wastewater assessed charges

Usually, we'll base your wastewater bill on your water meter reading – this will be provided to us by the company who supply your drinking water.

If you don't have a meter, you'll switch from paying unmetered charges to paying assessed charges. These are calculated in various ways, for example the number of bedrooms in your home or based on single occupancy.

Where a wastewater-only customer receives an assessed measured charge for water services, we'll also switch that customer to assessed wastewater charges. In this situation, we use your water company's method of assessment to calculate your wastewater bill.

Each water company has its own method of calculating assessed measured charges. Therefore, our wastewater charges reflect those differences. If the number of occupants in your property changes, please inform your water company, who'll then inform us.

Frequently asked questions

Here you can find answers to some commonly asked questions about wastewater-only bills.

Many of our customers who get water supply only or wastewater-only services from us will get two bills – one for each service from each company. However, in some areas you’ll get one bill for both services, even though different companies provide those services. If you’re unsure which company provides your water and wastewater services, you can check your supplier on Water UK's website.

Your water company will provide us with the meter details and we'll base our charges on the readings provided.

We can't meter the water that returns to the sewer for treatment because not all the water you use returns to the sewer. We've assessed the typical percentage return as 92.5% and so we bill based on a 'standard return to sewer' of this amount. This means that for every 100 cubic metres supplied, we'll bill for 92.5 cubic metre.

Please contact the company that supplies your water. If there are any problems with the meter that requires a change to your bill, we will be notified automatically.
